The Armageddon Expo held at Claudelands Event Centre last weekend was a bizarre show with people dressed up as monsters, superheroes and computer game characters like Minecraft and Assassin’s Creed.
People went along to the expo hoping to meet up with sci-fi celebrities and to trade their cartoon cards.
I went along hoping to meet the voice of Lisa Simpson; instead I saw the forest wizard character from the movie, the Hobbit. When I got into the main area it was amazing, people buying collectables, people playing games on computers. There were shirts, mini figurines, and heaps of expensive stuff to buy. In fact, I bought 6 plants versus zombie’s figurines, and a 3D sponge bob mini poster in a frame.
My favourite merchandise would have to be the different swords on display; one was about 2.5 metres long. The daggers were about 10cm long that looked really awesome. The second best thing was probably walking around the event centre admiring all the sci-fi stores, and the collectable stores and looking at the awesome costumes people had on.
There were about 12,000 people who went to the Armageddon expo over the weekend. Armageddon was first held in Auckland in 1995, expanding as it became more popular to include expos in Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Armageddon makes its way to Wellington next weekend and will be in Auckland in October. I really enjoyed being at the expo and wanted to stay as long as I could. It is worth going to.
